Morrisons Brew

Food-to-go on the rise at Morrisons.

The UK food-to-go market is one of the fastest-growing sectors, forecasting growth of around 30%, reaching a value of about £23bn in 2024. Morrison’s rebranded and repositioned part of their food-to-go to ’BREW,’ integrating hot food, coffee, bakery and confectionery within their offer.

Call the experts to deliver a UK-wide concept.

To deliver a UK-wide concept, the brief was critical in establishing key objectives with Morrison’s stakeholders.

We started the design process with initial sketches giving the opportunity to demonstrate functionality and brainstorm potential ideas. Next, the concept moved to 3D visuals and technical drawings making sure the concept was on brand and workable within various footprints across Morrison’s estate. And ‘BREW’ was born!

Meet our sister brand, experts in hot food holding.

Our sister brand Flexeserve® are the industry leader in hot-holding units and food-to-go solutions – exporting its products and services worldwide. They enable major global retailers and independent outlets alike to improve their hot food programs, reduce food waste and increase profits. Flexeserve® are experts in food preparation, hot-holding, menu development, and packaging, transforming the world of food-to-go which was all available to Morrisons to develop the hot food offer for ‘BREW’.

Bringing the concept to life.

The development process focused on a compact solution accommodating a coffee machine, hot-holding unit, ambient bakery case, condiments unit, confectionery and storage. We designed and developed four displays to give flexibility across various store formats. Within the design concept we also made allowances to accommodate the M&E services. The prototype was presented at Morrison’s Head Office so that the various stakeholders within the business could review and appraise the effectiveness of the compact scheme.

Smart sourcing and UK manufacture.

With a high volume of units required, the specified solid surface material was not available to meet the program. As the project timeline was the key driver, we had to be flexible, sourcing alternative finishes to keep the program on track. Over 400 ‘BREW’ displays were manufactured in batches of 100 at our in-house facility. Because of the pandemic, we assigned a dedicated area within our warehouse facility with units ready for call-off and available for immediate despatch.

Rapid roll-out in covid-safe conditions.

The program was changing daily due to regional lockdowns across the UK Wayne Rigby, Account Manager for Nuttall, stated ‘With up to seven installations taking place per night, inventory management and logistics needed to run like clockwork to meet our commitments. The concept came together beautifully, and ‘BREW’ can now be found across the UK.
